Chiles and I were colleagues at the Securities and Exchange Commission in the 1970s. I recall those times as some of the best of my life. Chiles was a newsman of the old school, full of new ideas. He was unbeatable at handball, totally expert. He loved Virginia. I’ll never forget those days.

Chiles and Bernice were clients of mine when I owned a residential cleaning business. I thoroughly enjoyed my visits with them both and will always treasure my time with them. Chiles was a very kind, thoughtful, and interesting person. I can still see Chiles sitting at his desk at the computer working. He loved gardening and often enjoyed sitting out by the little pond in their backyard - they both worked to create their personal serene setting. Chiles lived a very full life and was very active in his local community and at W&M College. He often spoke about how proud he was of his children. I appreciated my time with Chiles and Bernice and always will.
