Condolences for Joan Kathleen Irving

I just found out that Joanie passed. We were childhood friends in the old neighborhood in Chicago--inseparable for years. We had a Blast! I will miss her kindness, sense of humor and fierce loyalty. My sincere sympathy to Kevin (who she was So Proud Of!), Claudia, her grandsons and her entire family. I loved the poem that Geri posted in her honor.

I saw this poem recently and adapted it in memory of my sister, Joan….. ….When tomorrow starts without you, I try to understand That an Angel came and called your name, and took you by the hand; The angel said your place was ready in Heaven far above, And that you would have to leave behind all those you dearly love. But when you walked through Heaven’s Gate, you felt so much at home, For God looked down and smiled at you, and told you “Welcome Home”. So when tomorrow starts without you, Don’t think we’re far apart, for every time I think of you, you are right there in my heart.

Joan will forever be in my mind.....From working together at Target to our monthly dinners and shopping outings and our weekly calls. She was a trip, always humerous and strong as hell, even when you just knew she wasn't feeling good she still knew how to make someone else smile. I'm truly blessed that she was a part of my life even though it was just a few short years. I find comfort knowing she is no longer suffering. Rest easy Joanie. ❤

Joan was a beloved member of the Mercy Corps team. Her wonderful sense of humor and enormous heart made every interaction with her a pure delight. She will always be remembered by many here in Oregon as a cherished colleague and friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family at this time.

Joan and I met while working together. She was strong and amazing lady. She always made me laugh and was a very sweet friend! We enjoyed going to lunch together and would share fun stories and concerns in our lives. She was there during a very trying time in my life and was only kind and caring! I will miss her and her silly cat Oscar. My prayers go out to her family during this difficult time. She will be missed but never forgotten!

Joan was a neighbor of mine. I only knew her for a short time, but always enjoyed our visits. I will miss her.
