Gifts & Memorial Donations

Wilma Hart Winstead, born May 10, 1920, in Granville County, NC, died on March 14, 2019, just months before her 99th birthday.  The beloved daughter of George Washington and Beuna Lee Hart, she lived a life of service to her family, church, and community.  She was a faithful leader of Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church and taught at Jonesboro School  before retiring from K-12 education.  Following the death of her husband, Wilma served as an appointee to the Lee County Planning Commission, was member of the Jonesboro Book Guild and Order of Eastern Star.  Wilma served in the NC Cooperative Extension at the local and state level, subsequently being named to the 2013 Class of the Jane S. McKimmon FCS Hall of Fame.  As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and godmother, Wilma prayed daily for her family.  She will always be remembered for her cakes, cookies, and annual birthday cards with $10 enclosed.  Whether it was a member of the family or a friend, people sought her counsel and spiritual direction.  Although she is no longer physically present her influence will be felt for generations.

Preceded in death by her husband, Gorman C. Winstead, Sr., she is survived by her children, Wayland H Winstead (Paula) of Fernandina Beach, FLA; Gorman C. Winstead, Jr. (Joan) of Ladson, SC; Kathryn W. Kruschwitz (Al) of Williamsburg, VA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchild both by birth and by choice. There will be a celebration of her life at Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation with the family beginning at 10:00 a.m.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church.
