Paul Warren Elkins

Gifts & Memorial Donations

Paul Warren Elkins, 62, passed away on July 10, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Paul was born on August 2, 1958 and grew up in Hampton, VA. In short, Paul was a mess. Always plotting joy, jumping out from behind a door to scare you, “a joker, a smoker, a midnight toker” and the life of every party. Paul never met a stranger, and made an impact on everyone he met, no matter how long the interaction. Paul was enthusiastic about life, always present in the moment, authentic, and full of fun. With Paul, you never had to wonder; what you saw was what you got.

Paul graduated from Bethel High School in 1976. After graduation, Paul joined local 1340 of the IBEW and became a union electrician, using his skills to travel the country. Paul loved traveling, taking photos along the way, and making more friends and memories across the US. Paul was very proud of his time working at Epcot and looked back fondly on his time spent in the Snow White Village.

In 1984, Paul’s daughter, Lindsey, was born. Paul was a man of many skills and talents, and held many titles over the years, but none suited him better than “Dad”. Paul and Lindsey were a dynamic duo, cut from the same cloth, both sporting that big, mischievous grin. Paul raised Lindsey on the three great foundations: Jesus, George Strait and the Green Bay Packers. Lindsey was his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to brag on her, even up until his last day on earth. “Strong and courageous” was how he raised his daughter and his legacy will live on through her and her children, Emma and Abel.

Paul was a man blessed with great friendships, many lifelong from his childhood in Hampton. Paul loved loudly, enjoyed the company of his friends and having FUN. Over the years, they traveled to Lambeau Field, Nascar races and many beach days in the Outer Banks and various other memorable excursions. He was a big flirt, and loved charming the ladies. Paul was memorable and those who had the pleasure of knowing him, will never forget how good he made them feel.

Paul was diagnosed with leukemia in 2002 and never let it stifle his passion for life. Paul had 9 lives, surviving numerous accidents over his lifetime from being hit by a car to an electrocution. He beat cancer for 19 years by being stubborn, refusing to follow doctor’s orders and continuing to give cancer hell. He lived life on his own terms, right up until the very end, and he simply said, “let me go home”.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Lindsey Elkins (Jeremy), grandchildren; Emma and Abel, sisters, Cheryl and Lynda, a loving family, tons of great friends and the one who got away, Cindy Hott. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Thursday, July 15th at 2:00 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA. The family will receive friends at Paul’s home after the service. Attendees are encouraged to wear green and gold. Go Pack Go.

    Beth Wallace Otey says:
Cheryl - I had the absolute honor of working with Paul at Elkins Electric. He brought light into a room. After more than 25 years running into him again, he still remembered me, still teased me, and still made me walk away with a smile on my face. I am so sorry for you and Paul's Family.....cherish the memories!!
