Lera Cunningham, 96, of Williamsburg, slipped into the arms of Jesus on November 12, 2016. Born to Howard Boyd and Lillian Poe Fitzgerald on September 13, 1920, in Roanoke, Virginia she was the middle child of seven siblings. She met her future husband, Herbert Meade Cunningham on a blind date and soon after they were married in April of 1939. As a homemaker and mother, she excelled and always put family first. As a member of Grace Baptist Church for many years she taught Sunday school, led vacation bible school, served on the accounting committee and was a willing servant, ready to do whatever needed to be done. Lera was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Herbert. She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Libby (Walter) and Lera Coulter, 4 grandchildren, Shelley Coulter, Scott Coulter, Marie Libby Micheletti (Christopher) and Shannon Libby, 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Sadie Micheletti, and close family friend, Elissa Lynn. She resided at Trinity Assisted Living for the last 4 years and her family would like to express thanks to all the wonderful staff who took such good care of her. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bucktrout Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Williamsburg Memorial Park on Thursday, November 17th at 11am. Steve Wiley will officiate. She always said, “Give me flowers while I am living not when I’m dead”. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
