John W. Lynn, 74, of Williamsburg, VA, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Washington, on February 23, 1947.
John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970, and was a hospital corpsman in Vietnam. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) in 1973 with a B.A. in Psychology and in 1980 with a Master’s degree in Public Administration. In 2005 he retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, after 35 years of service in the Federal Government in the Washington, D.C. area.
He loved watching sports, especially football and NASCAR. He was a member of the PSU Nittany Lion Club, a life-time member of the PSU Alumni Association, and he endowed a full scholarship to a PSU Nittany Lion football player. He was an avid traveler and loved fine dining in gourmet restaurants.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Doris Lynn of Mt. Laurel, NJ, and a brother-in-law, Wayne Therrien of Melbourne, FL.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cynthia (nee Paterek); his sisters, Cynthia Watson (Chris) of Stephens City, VA, Christine Dill (Chip) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Susan Therrien of Melbourne, FL, and Elizabeth Brown (Greg) of Noblesville, IN; a brother, Robert Lynn (Cecilia) of Mt. Laurel, NJ; sisters-in-law, Karen Paterek of Providence Forge, VA, and Patricia Fite (Robert) of Toano, VA; and by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Bucktrout Funeral Home, on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM with a funeral service to follow. Interment will be at Quantico National Cemetery, Quantico, VA, immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
