I am truly sorry to hear about Jim's passing. My condolence to Pauline and Jason. I know you will be comforted by the many fond memories of Jim because he had alot to talk about on the job while at Chuckatuck. But may you also be comforted by what is decribed at Revelation 21:3,4 which says: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: ìLook! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.î

I have know Jim for a very long time. He is turely my best friend and buddy. Even though he may be gone his spirit will always be in my heart and mind. He will surely be missed, but never forgotten. While stationed at George AFB Ca, SSgt Jim Kozuh was my trainer. I was one of the 1st group of females to enter the maintenance career field, 43131C. We worked on F105G acft. I hated my job. I wouldn't work. I had a horrible attitude, black ghetto raised with a chip on my shoulder. Add that to guys not knowing how to treat females in a historically male environment. They cried & got their way. where I grew up tears were a waste of time. You fought. so i didnt know how to play that game. Still A naive teenager though, didn't understand that recruiters will lie to fill their quotas. Never experienced an authority figure telling me a lie. When I signed up I was told, just like ladies work in the offices at auto mechanic shops I would be in an office eventually. Just have patience. the lie continued thru tech school. instructors insisted there was no way a female would work on the fltline. arrived at GAFB & received a wakeup call. I was supposed to work on the fltline. I was SSgt Kozuh's nightmare & his challenge. He was my 2nd trainer. the 1st gave up. i was part of a test program & the sq didnt want a failure that would be reported USAF wide. SSgt Kozuh said give her to me & back off. We met after he had rolled his Datsun & flew out cause he didnt have on a seat belt. the car had exploded on impact. If he had been fastened in, he would've died. He got a another chance so he gave me chances, over & over & over. Trust me. Klinger on "MASH" was an amateur. I could pull some stunts. I had hoped that he would give up & have me kicked out of service. Instead he saw something in me & decided to save me. one of my "chances" was assigning me to mop the hangar. Seems easy but this is the 70s. The base was built in the 40s. The corners where the birds nested had never been cleaned. War took precedence over cleaning. Get the birds in the air & don't worry about the rest. So I was assigned to clean years of bird crap or straighten up & get to work. It was at least a ft deep in places. The corners of a hangar can be 8 by 8 cause all hangar doors must slide open & fit in the corners. only the door tracks were clean. the rest was in piles beside the tracks. After 8 hrs a day for a week shoveling, hauling it off & mopping, I was begging him to let me come back to work. He made me stay another week. I was so happy to be back. I was very good. Plus the threat of going back was always there. His unwavering faith saved me. I served 26 years in the USAF & Retired as a MSgt. Throughout my career when I ran into a problem AMN, I remembered him. I hope that I lived up to his expectations when dealing with them. My life today would never have been possible if he wasnt the wonderful person that I'm sure you all knew. Unfortunately I never tried to locate him & thank him when I finally "Grew Up." But the sergeant I knew didnt need or want the thanks. For him, it was just his job as an NCO supervising a young airman & he was very good at it. I thank God for bringing him in my life.
