Affectionately called “Pop” by his grandchildren, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of almost 55 years, Linda Sue Reedy Plunkett. David was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. In 1984, a new job brought him to the Hampton Roads area. The family relocated to Newport News and he was employed by Calspan Systems Corp. for 33 years, retiring in March 2017.
David was a kind and loving person who always put his family first. He was a humble, simple man who had strong values and an even stronger work ethic. While living in Roanoke, David frequently spent time with his family at the Plunkett farm, where many memories were made over the years.
In Williamsburg, it brought him joy to have his son, Craig in the home and his two daughters and their families living right down the street. Christopher and his family were a short car ride away. He loved being able to attend the grandchildren’s ball games and band concerts. Family trips to the Outer Banks became an annual tradition each summer. Morning walks to the beach to watch the sunrise with Pop were a treasured activity.
David is also survived by three brothers, Wayne Plunkett (Betty), Henry Plunkett, Jr. (Jane), and Donnie Plunkett (Patricia) all of Roanoke, VA; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Wheeler (Jimmy); brother-in-law, Rickey Reedy (Julie) all of Vinton, VA; sister-in-law, Rachel Reedy of Goodview, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Baswell Plunkett, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Jenkins Plunkett; his father-in-law, Norman R. “Bud” Reedy and two brothers-in-law, Norman E. Reedy and Davey J. Reedy.
The family would like to thank the medical staff in both the Progressive and Palliative Care Units at MCV. They provided wonderful care to David, while also supporting his family.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in David’s honor to the VCU Health Care System. Donations can be directed to Thomas Palliative Care, North Hospital 4, 1300 East Marshall Street, Richmond, VA 23298.
