Gifts & Memorial Donations

Alice Perkins Strawser, 79, widow of Robert William Strawser, and a 50-year resident of Newport News, Va., passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Denbigh. Born on November 15, 1941 in Newburyport, Mass., she was the youngest daughter of the late Henry M. Perkins, Sr. and the late Dorothy G. Rhodes Perkins. Alice graduated in 1959 from Amesbury High School in Mass. Following high school, she served as a volunteer in local hospitals. After marrying Robert, they eventually moved to Ft. Eustis, and later Stoneybrook, where she volunteered as a teacher’s aide and worked at local businesses, including the Rose’s department store and many years in guest services at the Globe Theatre in Busch Gardens. Alice was a member of Orcutt Baptist Church, and Warwick Assembly of God, and frequently volunteered with a number of local charities and military support groups. She loved her pets, and cooking; but truly enjoyed working in her garden. She is survived by two of her children: Craig P. Strawser and his wife Alecia, of Williamsburg, Va.; Jimmy H. Strawser and his wife Gretchen, of North Lawrence, N.Y.; and her two grandchildren: Zachary R. Strawser and Jennah A. Strawser; along with numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Robert; two of her children, John M. Strawser, of Newport News, Va.; and David W. Strawser, of Smiths Station, Ala.; her brother, Henry M. Perkins, Jr.; and sisters, Nancy Walker, and D. Sarah Gould. According to Alice’s wishes, she will be cremated, and will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, at a to-be-determined date. No local funeral services will be held. Alice believed strongly that our time on Earth was merely a stop along the way to where we should be. She always hoped that her passing would be celebrated, not mourned. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations in Alice’s memory be made to military-support charities: Heroes on the Water, or Project Healing Waters. Online condolences may be sent to the family at bucktroutfuneralhome.net  Arrangements were made by Bucktrout Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA.
