Alfina Caruso

Passed Away: October 30, 2021

Alfina Caruso 95, widow of the late Frank Caruso, passed away at her residence in Williamsburg VA on October 30, 2021. She was born in Philadelphia PA. to Salvatore and Linda Laspina. Beloved wife of Frank Caruso for 46 years, she is survived by her sons Frank Caruso (Martha) and Daniel Caruso (Lori), as well as 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sons John Caruso (Katherine) and Sam Caruso, sister Ida Patti and 2 brothers, Isadore and Anthony Laspina. Alfina went to Swedesboro high school but was not able to complete graduation due to working on her family’s farm. She later went on to complete her GED in the 1970s. While raising 3 sons, Alfina literally ran the family farm, bunching asparagus and packing tomatoes. She also helped with her husband’s repair business, scheduling service calls and helping with the accounting. She was an active member of the Soroptomists in the 1980s and helped with that organization’s fundraising. An avid pinochle player, Alfina was a force to be reckoned with. She and her husband Frank were often an unbeatable team and she played extremely well even in her last days. She hosted pinochle games at home as well as family picnics on the farm. Her appetite for books was ravenous often reading several books a day. Alfina loved to travel, and over the years she took several trips to Italy where she visited family, as well as trips to Switzerland, Ireland, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, St. Clare of Assisi Parish, 140 Broad Street, Swedesboro where a viewing will be held beginning at 10 AM. Interment following at St Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Swedesboro. Donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation of the Delaware Valley.
