After a valiant fight with Glioblastoma, Barbara Jo Pittman Beane, 83, of Charleston peacefully departed this life to be with our Lord on February 3, 2019.
Barbara was born October 23, 1935, the daughter of the late Dewey and Rafael Pittman.

She was a loving and kind wife, mother, sister and grandmother, a faithful christian and member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Kanawha City. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years, William S. “Bill” Beane Sr. of Charleston, W.Va.; daughter, Beverly Dawn Gosney of Heathsville, Va.; sons, Gregory Scott Beane of Yorktown, Va., William S. “Sam” Beane Jr. (Robin) of Williamsburg,Va.; and her dear grandchildren, Garrison Duke Gosney(Lauran) of Dover Air Force Base, Dover, Del., Lia Danielle Gosney of
Madrid, Spain, Sarah Michelle Beane of Newport News, Va., Emily Scout Beane of Williamsburg, Va., Christina Melick (Jeffrey) of Newports News, Va.; greatgrandchildren, Gabrielle Melick and Madysen Melick of Newport News, Va.; brothers, Charles Pittman of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., Ronald Pittman of Athens, Ohio; sister, Patty Miller of Charleston, W.Va., along with her best friend, Sue Taylor of Charleston, W.Va.

Barbara graduated from Charleston High School in 1953. After a long career in the secretarial field, she retired in 1996 from Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. After retirement, she and Bill spent much of their time traveling around the country by RV. The family would like to thank Pastor Gary Hall and the rest of Barbara’s church family at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church for their love and support during her illness. In addition, the family would like to recognize CAMC General Division, NeuroSciences Department, the wonderful nurses and the warm-hearted, gentle caregiver from Riverside Hospice of Williamsburg, Va.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church by Pastor Gary Hall on Saturday, February 23. The family will be receiving friends at 11 a.m. with the service beginning at noon.

Barbara was cremated according to her wishes and the Inurnment Service will be held privately.
