Margaret Shirk Bowell

Gifts & Memorial Donations

BOWELL, Margaret Shirk, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017.  “Margie” was born on July 29th, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She never lost her love for Pittsburgh and the deep friendships she made while living there. Margie leaves behind the love of her life, Pete, her husband of 62 years and her four children, Lynn, Peter, Rob and Julie.  Margie and her husband have 10 grandchildren, who will dearly miss Nanny/Grandmama and her milkshakes. Margie was a woman who had a deep love for the Lord and was not shy about sharing it. She had a heart for those in need and volunteered for the Crisis Pregnancy Center while living in Potomac, Maryland. She was also active in teaching young adults with special needs at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland.  In addition to this, Margie was also involved as a small group leader during the foundational years of Community Bible Study, now a world-wide ministry.  Her life was a testimony to her love for her family and her friends.  She loved to be surrounded by people and often had wise counsel for those she met.  In fact, her nickname was “mom” to many.  Towards the end of her life she often talked about being reunited with her son David, whom she lost as an infant, her mother and her father, John and Margaret Hawkins, her sisters, Wilma and Betty Lee and her dear friends Norma Edwards and Cora Dean whom she met while attending Fourth Presbyterian Church. Margie counted “Fourth” Church as an important part of her Christian faith and growth. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church on May 15th at 1:00 p.m. in Williamsburg, Virginia where Margie and Pete are members.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Margie’s honor can be made to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church 1677 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185 or Personal Touch Hospice, 735 Thimble Shoals Blvd, Suite 130, Newport News, Virginia 23608.

Mr. Bowell, Lynn, Pete, Rob, and Julie, I am so sad to hear that your sweet, beautiful wife and mom has left this earth. She was loving, compassionate, friendly, joyful, and completely in love with Jesus. She shined His light so brightly everywhere she went. The K's love you all!

IDear Pete and Margie's beloved children and grandchildren, I got to know Margie at Bible Study at GCPC.....another "love" for her...God's word. She was a gracious, generous lady. We are praying for you as you grieve her passing, but not as those who have no hope, as she is rejoicing with her Lord.

Pete, I was sorry to learn of Margie's death and will keep you and your family in my prayers. I have been unable to get either your Governor's Land address or your phone number to call you. I hope our paths might cross again very soon.
