Born and raised in Lebanon, Missouri, he came to Virginia and remained here for the rest of his life. Herb spent 36 years in education as a teacher, principal, and assistant superintendent. In addition to his love of educating youth, Herb’s passion for music and singing ran deep. He performed for over 30 years with the Williamsburg Madrigal Singers, and as a member of the Bruton Parish Choir he was a booming bass for over 50 years. His friends from those groups were more like family. After music, Herb’s passion for sports included baseball, football, any event including Missouri, and any game in which one of his three granddaughters competed. Surpassing Herb’s love of music and sports, however, was his love of family. Whether it was a soccer game, a volleyball game or a softball game, Grandpa was in attendance to root on Kelsey, Kylie or Kara.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, HJ and Leona Deppe, his sisters, Connie, Irene, and Helen, his three brothers, Ralph, Lloyd, and Ted, and his wife, Pat Deppe. Herb is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Wilson and Wasana Deppe, his daughter, Mary Parrish, his three granddaughters, Kelsey Deppe, Kara Deppe, and Kylie Deppe, a great-granddaughter, Karlie Bundy and countless cousins from Virginia to California. Also survived by his many friends from Bruton Parish Church, York County Public Schools and the Verana Community
The memorial service will be held on June 27th at 2 p.m. at Bruton Parish Church with a reception in the Parish Hall afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, SPCA, or the Alzheimer’s Association.rbert Jean Deppe, 87, joined his departed wife, Pat on June 7, 2018.
